The Toughest Indian in the World by Sherman Alexie.

Sherman Alexie is one of my favorite short story writers. If you ever get the chance to see him do a reading, don’t miss the opportunity. He’s got stand-up comic star quality too. This collection offers “nine stories rendered in muscular, unencumbered language that can deliver a shock like a good, hard punch.” - Library Journal
I just read a short story by him and loved it. I wish I could recall the title. It involved a drunk man trying to buy back his grandfather’s headdress. Good writing.
Could the story be “What you Pawn I Will Redeem” found in the collection Ten Little Indians? See:

Also check out his movie Smoke Signals:

based on the book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven
Recently, I read “Every Little Hurricane” and “The Long Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven” by Sherman Alexie because my multiehnic literature professor at university told us to do it. I found his style really particular because seems like he writes stories based on his experiences as a Native American who lived in a reservation. So, by reading his works, you can get to a better understanding of what Native Americans were like during the postcolonialism time.
Excellent writing. I highly recommend his works
